Russell Brand Released on Bail After Appearing in London Court on Sexual Assault Charges
London, May 2, 2025 — Russell Brand, the British comedian, broadcaster, and actor, has been granted bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to face a series of serious sexual assault allegations.
The 49-year-old entertainer is accused of five offences involving four separate women, including rape, oral rape, indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault.
Tense Court Arrival and Hearing
Brand arrived at the courthouse under a heavy media presence. Surrounded by police officers, he took more than two minutes to walk a short distance from his vehicle to the court entrance while being photographed from all angles. He made no comments to the press.
In court, Brand confirmed his name, age, and address, but did not enter a plea during the brief 12-minute hearing. He was informed of his bail terms, which he acknowledged understanding. The case is scheduled to move to the Old Bailey, with the next hearing set for 30 May.
Allegations Span Multiple Incidents
Among the allegations, Brand is accused of touching a woman’s breasts without consent and indecently assaulting another by forcefully grabbing her and attempting to drag her toward a male toilet. The charges were issued by post last month, following a high-profile media investigation.
The case stems from a joint investigation by the Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches, which aired in September 2023, unveiling multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against Brand.
Brand Maintains Innocence
In an April video statement, Brand denied all allegations, stating he had “never engaged in non-consensual activity” and welcomed the chance to defend himself in court.
A Storied Career Under Scrutiny
Brand, originally from Essex, gained prominence as a stand-up comic, later rising to fame through roles on TV and radio, including hosting Big Brother’s Big Mouth, the NME Awards, and BBC Radio 2. His eccentric personality and rapid career ascent made him one of the UK’s most recognizable media figures during the mid-2000s.
As the case moves forward, it is likely to draw significant attention both in the UK and internationally, given Brand’s high public profile and the nature of the allegations.
