Parubiy shooting arrest confirmed

Police have arrested a suspect in the Parubiy shooting arrest case in Ukraine. A gunman disguised as a courier shot and killed former parliament speaker Andriy Parubiy, 54, in Lviv on Saturday.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the arrest on Monday. He said investigators are working urgently and thanked prosecutors and police for their rapid action.

Interior minister Igor Klymenko announced that officers caught the suspect in the Khmelnytskyi region. He explained that the attack was carefully planned. The assailant tracked Parubiy’s travel route and even prepared an escape.

Details of the Lviv attack

Lviv police chief Oleksandr Shliakhovskyi said the attacker fired about eight shots. Footage suggested that the gunman dressed like a Glovo courier. In response, Glovo condemned the crime and promised to help investigators.

Zelensky added that chief prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko had already received an initial testimony from the suspect. Meanwhile, officials continue to collect evidence and question witnesses.

Political career and legacy

Parubiy rose to prominence during Ukraine’s Euromaidan protests in 2013–14. He organized “self-defence” groups that protected demonstrators in Kyiv. As a result, the protests toppled pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych and pushed Ukraine closer to Europe.

From 2016 to 2019, Parubiy served as parliament speaker. He promoted stronger ties with the European Union and played a major role in shaping Ukraine’s post-Maidan politics.

The Parubiy shooting arrest shocked the nation. Leaders hailed him as a defender of democracy and a symbol of resistance. In addition, his killing highlights the serious threats that Ukraine still faces as it continues to resist Russian aggression.
